In January 2006, Rotary Club of Koh Samui, ROCKS, was determined to join in the most delightful of all national holidays, Children’s Day, when Thailand recognises that its children are the future and need to be valued. Having missed 2005 due to the need to attend to tsunami relief. ROCKS were determined not to miss another one.
A contingent of ROCKS members arrived and found a convenient tent to provide welcome shade on a hot and sunny day. Very soon they found themselves dispensing ice creams to an apparently endless line of eager hands waiting for the delicious treats. But in the odd lull, it was noticed that there were many ‘big kids’ as eager to avail themselves of the treats as there were small ones! When not enjoying an ice cream, the children were able to perform on stage to a background of very loud music, or simply wander among the tents where many other delights could be found!
