"Rotarians are symbols and examples of the search for progress and stability. All of them, each with a different business and profession have heavy duties of humanitarianism and have joined in co-operation in the glorious attempt to seek methods and means for the solution of problems we face in times of crises." -Royal Citation of His Majesty the King Rama IX (Patron of Rotary in Thailand), on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Rotary in Thailand, 15th December 1980.
On 16th October, 2004 Rotary Club of Koh Samui, ROCKS, held its first Oktoberfest. This very German festival is normally staged in Munich, but with a sizeable German membership, the club decided that it was appropriate to hold a tropical version of this event.
Marquees were erected on the Beach behind Long Beach Resort, and mainly German foods and Beers were sold to eager holiday makers and expatriates alike. Indeed, some of the guests who joined in the fun, later joined the Rotary Club! ROCKS members turned out in force to help their fellow German members to BBQ the foods and sell the beers. Much of the food and drink was sponsored by generous donors, and all proceeds went towards charitabe projects. The sun shone down on the fun, as guests were entertained, partly by a DJ, and partly by ROCKS members taking a turn at the microphone. The party went on well into the night, until the food, drinks members and guests were all exhausted.
